Well everybody - another basketball season is in the books for Hondo Valley. Great job student-athletes and coaches! We want to congratulate Kate Cooper, Fabian Prudencio, Tommy Lucero and Elijah Montoya for receiving all district recognition. This will conclude our sports seasons this year as we will not participate in track this season, for various reasons. Coach Devine is planning a banquet/awards ceremony - more information on that will be coming soon.

For our Home basketball games - just a reminder, the blue ticket is saving seats for the parents/family of our athletes - however it is NOT an admission pass, all spectators are required to pay the admission cost. This helps us be able to pay the officials. There is a little room for people without tickets, it is at a first come first serve basis, but once we reach that "cushion" number we will not let people without tickets in. Also, please help us follow the guidelines, No spectators are allowed to sit 5 rows behind the team benches, This is clearly marked on the south side of the gym. Please remember to wear your masks, social distance and be good sports. All of our home games are being streamed on the NFHS network.

Eagle fans - as we prepare for our upcoming home football game - there are a few items for us to think about. #1 - PLEASE adhere to the guidelines of mask wearing and 6 foot social distancing. This is important not only for our school but for all of the programs across the state. #2 - If it is at all possible, PLEASE park where you can stay in your car to watch the game. If that is not possible and you choose to sit in the back of a pickup or on lawn-chairs or in our stands - PLEASE follow the guidelines. #3 - probably the only "normal" request I have -PLEASE be positive and supportive of our team and good sports to everyone. #4 - There will NOT be concessions nor will there be restroom facilities available to the spectators. #5 - There will NOT be an admission charge. There will be a place at the entrance where you can make ANY size of a donation to help us pay for the officials. The team and coaches are excited to offer you this opportunity and we look forward to "playing our hearts out" for OUR COMMUNITY.

Hondo Valley Public Schools Parents/Families: Governor Lujan-Grisham and the NM PED announced that New Mexico schools can reopen K-12 beginning February 8, 2020. We are excited that we can continue our model of learning for Hondo students, and to share what this step in reopening New Mexico schools means for HVPS. • All grades will remain in the Hybrid Learning Model. HVPS is still only allowed 50% of our students on campus each day. • All persons on the HVPS must continue to practice COVID Safe practices: o Wear a mask correctly at all times o Social Distance (6 feet apart) o Wash/sanitize hands often • HVPS must follow the CDC and NM PED health and safety guidelines for public school buildings: o The HVAC system filters have been upgraded to MERV 8 (or above). o In addition, each classroom now has an air filtration system to ensure the air in each room is exchanged multiple times each hour. o The classrooms, common areas, and offices are sanitized each day. • While COVID-19 immunization for HVPS employees is not mandatory, many of our faculty and staff have opted to get the immunization. Currently 42% of our staff has had at least the 1st immunization shot and many others are on the NMDOH waiting list. • In the near future we will find out more about sports and extracurricular activities, and we will convey that information to you as soon as we can. • Please continue to keep students at home if anyone in your household has tested positive for COVID-19. I want to thank the Hondo Valley community for your steadfast support and cooperation from the beginning of the pandemic in March and throughout the 20-21 school year. If you have any questions or need additional information please contact me at 575-653-4411, and as always, thank you for your continued support. Marvin L. Martin HVPS Superintendent

January 29, 2021 To: Parents or Guardians of children who attend Hondo Valley Public Schools Hondo Valley Public Schools are working with the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED) and New Mexico’s Department of Health (NMDOH) because a staff member at our facility or a child who attends our school has tested positive for COVID-19. This letter is to inform you about the next steps necessary to protect your child and our community from COVID-19. Per guidance from both NMPED and NMDOH, we are required to investigate to see who had “close contact” with the staff member or student who tested positive for COVID-19. A “close contact” is defined as being closer than six feet for more than three minutes to a person who is positive for COVID-19 and all staff and students who were in the same classroom or on the same bus as the infected individual. According to NMPED and NMDOH, all staff who were in “close contact” with the infected individual must be tested seven to 10 days after close contact exposure to the positive COVID-19 individual. All students who were close contacts are strongly encouraged to be tested. Both staff and student close contacts must self-quarantine at home for 14 days, regardless of the test result. In the meantime, if you or your child begin to develop symptoms of COVID-19, which are fever, chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of smell or taste, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea [https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019- ncov/symptoms-testing/symptoms.html], please call your healthcare provider or the COVID-19 Hotline at 1-855-600-3453. It is important that you call ahead to your healthcare provider before presenting to the physician’s office, clinic, urgent care or emergency room so that they can be prepared for your arrival. They may also refer you to a testing clinic. Areas of the school (including buses) in which the COVID-19 positive individual spent time will be cleaned and disinfected and those who were close contacts of the positive case will be notified. Please continue to send your child to school unless you are notified that your child was a close contact of a positive COVID-19 individual, your child develops COVID-19 symptoms, or your child has a positive COVID-19 test. Likewise, your household members do not need to quarantine unless your child tests positive for COVID-19 or your household members are identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 individual. You may call Marvin L Martin at (575) 653-4411 or NMDOH at (505) 827-0006, if you have questions. Thank you for your support in these efforts. Sinceramente, Marvin L Martin

The New Mexico Public Education Department’s mandate (announced 3:00pm 9/3/20) that all schools re-open using a hybrid model means that HVPS reentry plan to bring back Kindergarten through 6th grade students next week in a full reentry model is no longer permissible. HVPS will have to design an A/B (Monday-Tuesday or Wednesday-Thursday) schedule with a maximum of 50% of each class in each cohort K-12. This means that each student will be attending in person classes two days a week, and remote learning two days a week. HVPS will be 100% remote learning K-12 next week, September 8-10, 2020, so that a revised re-opening plan can be developed and approved. We will contact you next week to let you know which group your child will be in and updated the bus schedule. Thank you for your understanding and continued support.

Hondo Valley Public School will offer two options when students return to school August 10th: 1. Traditional Face-to-Face Model 2. Remote Learning Model The Remote Learning model is a combination of live teacher instruction and self-paced activities. The coursework is designed to be more rigorous and offer more live learning opportunities than the remote learning period in the spring of 2020. HVPS teachers have made contact with most HVPS families to complete a household survey regarding your intent to enroll in the Traditional or Remote Learning model. If you have not been contacted, you must contact the school (575-653-4411) and complete a household enrollment survey. Families with multiple children can make individual decisions for each student making it possible for students living in the same household to enroll in different models. Enrollment for the Remote Learning Model will close August 3, 2020, and any student that is not enrolled in Remote Learning will be enrolled in the traditional model.
